Are we over diagnosing?

For decades we have lived our lives valuing our differences and learning to love each other and work with each other regardless of small or large differences. ADD and ADHD are not psychotic disorders. They are seen as manifestations of unpopular or unwanted behavior. Why are we so intent on making people what we want them to be? Why can not we not value them for the people that they are and help them to control behaviors that are not beneficial for them.

We are so focused on the greater good we have jumped into early diagnosis and labeling children with stigmas and stereotypes. Why not just label them children? Let's learn how each of them understands the world Let's focus on learning how to teach them, discipline them, and love them in ways that they each understand. Everyone has problems and shortcomings. Why is it so important to blame something for our problems? Every child is perfect. Some need help with math or english, and some need help with social skills and communication skills.

Find the right people to help you love and nurture your child into his or her best life not label him or her to find a way to blame. Raising a child is not easy. Let yourself off the hook and get some help. There is no shame or embarrassment about needing help. We are tested and trained to do everything else. But raising a child is something we are not taught in school. We are forced to blindly find our way. We all need help and support. So call your mom's group, church, counselor, or school and find the resources you need. And stop stereotyping your child and making them feel like there is something innately wrong with them.
